Horizon 2040: The Spokane Regional
Metropolitan Transportation Plan
Horizon 2040 is SRTC’s long-range transportation plan, also known as a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). Horizon 2040 is a multi-modal “blueprint” aimed at meeting the transportation needs of the Spokane region through the year 2040. It is based on projections for growth in population, housing and jobs and considers all mode of transportation, including private vehicles, public transit, bicycling, walking, freight movement, rail and air travel.
Significant public input went into the development of the Horizon 2040 plan, including a series of roundtable meetings with area stakeholders. A report on input received at those roundtables is here*.
Horizon 2040 was first adopted in 2013; each chapter of the document and all appendices are below. SRTC is required by the federal government to update the plan every four years. The SRTC’s Board of Directors approved the update to Horizon 2040 on December 14, 2017 and it became the current plan in January 2018.
