There’s also a brief history there of the Washington State Good Roads and Transportation Association (WSGRTA), which I didn’t realize has been around since the very early 1900’s. SRTC Board Member Joe Tortorelli is president of WSGRTA.
What I thought was interesting was that Sam Hill of the Great Northern Railroad was the first president of the Good Roads and Transportation Association. I know he also designed the lodges at Glacier Park and advertised it a lot to get more traffic for the railroad.
Mr. Hill was apparently a man of great diversity. I had no idea about the Glacier lodges but did know he's basically the father of the railroad around here because I always see that mural about him in Hillyard. Or at least I used to- I can't remember, is it still there?
Wrong Hill Sam was the son of James Hill who built the Great Northern. Sam was the son that marketed the railroad to help make it profitable.
Yes The Murals are still in Hillyard.
