I shouldn’t be letting this secret out, but the gas station at State Line next to the El Patio restaurant has gas for $2.49 on Monday nights during the Monday night football game.
While that helps me trim the budget a little, I still resent the new boats and other toys I’m buying for the gas company executives and their families.
Some well-known names may put an end to our gas headache though- at least a dozen new electric or hybrid cars are expected to hit the U.S. market within the next few years.
There is a drawback though- while you’ll be saving on gas, the price of the car might make up for it. Here’s the story on the new electrics from the L.A. Times.
Electric cars are useful in small doses, and can be beneficial for the environment. However, they cannot, and should not, be used to replace cars on the mass scale. We need more efficient long distance transportation systems for cargo and passengers, such as electrified rail.

Thanks for the comment Canada Guy. Rumor has it that the new transportation bill, when it passes, is going to be heavy on rail funding, plus there's a new emphasis on cargo and freight movement, such as our 'Inland Pacific Hub (IPH)' study being conducted right now, so I think we'll be seeing change come about very soon. We unveil our new IPH website either this week or next so I'll get the word out so everyone can see what we're up to.
Good news, that's nice to hear!
