Over on the Cycling Spokane blog, ‘Hank’ posted a pretty cool video he shot while riding the Children of the Sun Trail that paralells the North Spokane Corridor. So if you haven’t ridden it yet, but have been wondering about the trail, check it out.

I noticed that the Children of the Sun trail is torn up at Parksmith as an on/off ramp is created for the NSC. Does anyone know when it will be back in operation? Looking forward to riding the trail again this Spring.
I've got a call in to the design engineer for the North Spokane Corridor and will post the answer when I hear back. Stay tuned.
Sorry it took so long to get back to you @509Rider. The folks at WSDOT say there are two projects currently underway in the area of Parksmith that impact the Children of the Sun Trail. One project is constructing a pedestrian-bikepath bridge to carry the trail over one of the Parksmith Interchange ramps that is being built on the other project. To facilitate the reconstruction of the trail in this area from the current temporary alignment to the ultimate configuration, the trail will need to be closed until both projects are completed, which is currently scheduled for late summer 2012.
OK, thanks for looking into this. I commute to work quite often (riding from Mead to downtown) and the section of Market from Mead to Freya can be quite nasty on the shoulder (glass/sand/rocks). It would be nice if it could be swept more often until the trail is re-opened.
I'll make that suggestion to the folks in charge and see what can be done. I can't promise anything with budgets/staffing the way they are of course though.
