On behalf of the Spokane Valley City Council, Mayor Rod Higgins has sent a letter to Gov. Jay Inslee supporting a petition to rename a section of Washington State Route 27 (SR 27) to “Sam Strahan Memorial Highway” in honor of the victim of the September Freeman High School shooting. The section proposed for renaming stretches south along SR 27 from the Spokane Valley city limits at 32nd to milepost 68.9 near East Valley Chapel Road.
“Sam Strahan was a heroic victim,” said Higgins in a news release. “We hope this change will be a constant reminder to all those who travel this stretch of road to remember this young man who loved his family and loved life, and in attempting to aid others, was taken from us.
