You’ve heard the term “come hell or high water” right? Well transportation planners are literally planning for high water these days- as well as earthquakes, extreme heat and energy shortages.

This article from The Atlantic looks at five crucial principles for 21st century transportation planning, including planning for an uncertain future, designing infrastructure to be responsive and repairable, building transit networks instead of lines, personalizing public transit through a number of methods, and developing more flexible governance and operating systems (amen to that!).
