Now THIS is how you set up a temporary bike lane! According to Streetsblog USA, “Guerrillas” in Wichita, Kansas used two rows of toilet plungers to temporarily protect a bike lane. And now the city is taking notice.
Wichita officials this week spent about $1,000 to order and install permanent flexposts along 100 feet of the bike lane that many drivers used as an illegal turn lane for their cars.
The organization that placed the plungers is a volunteer group called the Yellowbrick Street Team, which spent $50 to buy the plungers with the deliberate goal of making the stunt spread on social media. Within days, it was featured on local TV and spread to national outlets like CityLab, Next City and mental_floss.
