Ridesharing companies like Uber and Lyft have changed the way we get around, and now they are launching another new service in our area focused on health.

According to Uber, Every year, 3.6 million Americans miss doctor appointments due to a lack of reliable transportation, with no-show rates are as high as 30% nationwide.

Uber Health will partner with healthcare organizations to provide reliable transportation for patients and it allows healthcare professionals to order rides for patients going to and from the care they need. This new service  includes:

  • Flexible ride scheduling for patients, caregivers and staff. Coordinators can schedule rides for patients, caregivers and staff immediately, the same day or up to 30 days in advance. This allows transportation to be scheduled for follow-up appointments while still at the healthcare facility. Multiple rides can be scheduled and managed at the same time.
  • Access for patients who don’t have a smartphone. An Uber app, or a smartphone, aren’t required for this service because it’s all done through text message. Or riders can receive a call with trip details to their mobile phone or landline instead.
  • Simple billing, reporting, and management so that organizations can keep track of what they’re spending on rides.
  • HIPAA Compliance. To ensure Uber Health meets HIPAA standards, numerous safeguards have been developed.
