Pittsburgh has come up with a good way to get people out of cars while effectively getting them where they want to go. According to Streetsblog USA, when you buy a farecard for the local transit system, you also get access to the local bike share system at no additional cost.
The ConnectCard comes with unlimited bike-share trips of 15 minutes or less. To access the free 15 minutes of ride time, a person just has to tap their ConnectCard on a bike share kiosk, input their phone number, and use the PIN number texted to their phone to access the bike. After the first use, the ConnectCard is linked to bike share, and all that is required is to tap the card on the desired bike.
As of last Tuesday, about 100 people had linked their ConnectCard to bike share, then went on to actually ride a bike.
