Good news for some, bad news for others- Taco Bell is ditching the drive-thru in big cities. Streetsblog USA reports that, even though drive-thru sales account for most of the chains sales, the restaurant plans to open more than 300 locations without drive-thrus in major cities over the next five years.
Taco Bell recently opened what they are calling “cantinas,” without parking or a drive-thru, in downtown Cleveland, right next to the terminus of the Healthline bus rapid transit route. This marks a big change in the way fast food sellers have typically operated in Cleveland, where their buildings are almost exclusively located in car-oriented suburbs.
