Seattle this week lowered speed limits on more than 2,400 miles of city streets, according to KOMO News.

Officials from the Seattle Department of Transportation say this is an effort to reduce pedestrians from being struck by vehicles.

Depending on the street, speed limits dropped from 25 to 20 mph or 30 to 25 mph. The hard part was replacing nearly 150 speed limit signs.

The Seattle Police Department will be issuing warnings, not citations, over the next two weeks.
