I can’t believe it’s that time of year already. What happened to fall? Where did winter go?
Spokane County’s Engineering and Roads Department will start seasonal weight restrictions on February 2nd and continue until further notice. Roadway surfaces and the structures beneath the surface have become weakened during this winter’s cycle of freezing temperatures, followed by warmer temperatures and precipitation.
As a result, roads are vulnerable to severe damage and the implementation of weight restrictions reduces the need for increased road maintenance and auto repairs later this year.
Seasonal road restrictions usually go into effect in late February or early March and last for approximately 6 weeks. However, seasonal weather conditions vary from year-to-year and dictate the extent of the restrictions and when they go into effect.
Spokane County commercial vehicle enforcement officers will be on patrol and violators will be fined!
Good thing that Spokane fixed that roads. They should keep their people safe.
I have been driving Thorpe rd from assembly to hwy-195 for eight years now and every spring the water run off from trainer rd runs out on to the asphalt in the right hand wheel rut and goes east to the power lines .last year they came and put a culvert in on trainer but failed to see there was no place for the water to go except on to the asphalt . the ditch on the south side of Thorpe is full with dirt gravel and grass and weeds there are what looks to be two low areas on the south side of Thorpe rd that would allow the water to collect and drain out without getting on the asphalt on Thorpe . why does the rd department continue to allow this to happen year after year when it’s such a cheap fix just to grade out the ditch and let the water go to the swale areas that are there and not onto the driving surface ??? surely if we can afford a billion dollar renovation on a park that we only use once every 5 to 10 yrs we could afford 5 thousand dollars or so to fix a road we use every day to get to Spokane and avoid the costly price of re paving but it’s to late now the asphalt has begun to egg shell and repaving is the only way to fix good job SR department ? I don’t think so and neither do most of the residents that live out here
Hi Dan- It took some time Friday but I tracked this down and turns out that section of roadway belongs to the City of Spokane. Somewhere there contacted me and said they would get back to you directly. Let me know if you have anymore concerns.
