The Washington State Department of Transportation is hosting a public meeting Thursday, Nov. 1 to hear concerns and share information about the intersection of US 2 near Colbert Road, located 14 miles north of Spokane. The meeting is 6-8 p.m. at Mountainside Middle School, 4717 E. Day Mt. Spokane Road.
Three recent crashes at the intersection of US 2 and Colbert Road have resulted in increasing concerns about collisions and driver safety. Citizens requested a meeting with WSDOT to voice their concerns.
Representatives from WSDOT’s US 2 corridor project team in Eastern Washington, including the traffic manager, project engineer, planning manager and the regional administrator will provide a background on the intersection and discuss how projects are prioritized and funded. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend.
Dear WSDOT team, all three of my teenage children have worked at Children’s Chapel Center in Colbert Chapel (a daycare) that is located two buildings down from Northwest Christian School. Both sit East of US 2 and enter/exit at Bernhill Rd. (across from Colbert Rd). that meets with the US 2. For years I have seen teenagers from NW Christian High School driving siblings across this Hwy dodging Semi’s and vehicles going 65 to 70 miles from the north, and traffic racing to get home from the south end of town. These two schools paired with Mountainside Middle school and Mt Spokane High School just a few miles south all have teenagers and their siblings in cars. Four schools just miles apart with beginner drivers navigating Semi’s, snow/ ice, and impatient drivers not following the one car per median signage, etc. need your help for safety. New houses have brought an increased number of children attending nearby schools and the number of cars in close accidents have increased also. I believe a four way stop light would be a good solution. The speed limit from the north would need to be reduced so that Semi’s are not barreling through the red lights, however. Please create a safer solution for this dangerous intersection. It is difficult to see accidents EVERY YEAR and nothing being done about it. Thank you for your time, Julie Aton
Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts Julie. I will pass them along to our Board and Transportation Technical Committee members from WSDOT.
