A dispute over unpaid money has forced the disabling of the pay-by-phone option at downtown Spokane parking meters, according to the Spokesman-Review. City officials say a short-term replacement should have the option up and running again in a couple of weeks. a short-term contract with a company could be signed as early as this week, followed by a two-week period to set up the new service.

In the meantime, the city also is working with LocoMobi, the company that provided pay-by-phone services since the option was introduced in November 2014, to get about $80,000 the company owes it.

Until a new option is available, stickers were used to cover smartphone codes on pay-by-phone enabled meters. Credit card payments are still accepted though at about 800 meters downtown.
