Believe it or not, there are still dirt and gravel roads within the City of Spokane. There’s about to be one less. According to the Spokesman-Review, Spokane’s City Council last week accepted a bid to pave Erie Street through the East Central neighborhood.

Erie currently is hidden under Interstate 90 and the rail viaduct. When paved, it will serve not only cars but also pedestrians and bicyclists from First Avenue to where it will hook up with the future Martin Luther King Jr. Way where it runs through the University District.

Neighborhood leaders are excited that this will not only provide connectivity for the neighborhood to downtown Spokane, but will also clean up an area that’s has some transient activity. The Ben Burr trail will run next to the roadway when complete, which will also provide connectivity from the South Hill.
