An editorial in today’s Spokesman-Review condemns the latest Tim Eyman initiative as trying to accomplish too much and says, while aimed at tolling on the west side of Washington, it could hurt our chances of funding projects on this side of the state.
Here is what that initiative is supposed to address, and why the Spokesman says it won’t work.
I agree every initiative Tim Eyman has proposed has been a disaster, so I do not see where this one will be different. I do not see why those of us that never drive on the toll bridges should decide which bridge has a toll. The state may have had the money without a toll if some of the initiatives Mr. Eyman has got passed had not passed.
Yep, my favorite Eyman initiative was 695, aka the $30 license tab initiative. Great, now everyone only pays a base fee of $30 for their vehicle license tabs, but our roads are falling apart. And I pay $45 to license my tiny 12' fishing boat trailer that used to cost about $15 before the initiative.
They should have added a COLA to that so it could at least keep pace with inflation.
For you non-government folk out there, a COLA is a Cost of Living Adjustment. Or at least it used to be. We're not getting it anymore. Would've been a good idea though.
