Some people don’t know this, but County Commissioners and City Councilmembers jobs don’t just consist of attending council meetings once a week and doing a little work in the background. Each Commissioner or Councilmember sits on multiple local boards and committees, in addition to their regular jobs (in the case of Councilmembers. Being a Commissioner is considered a full-time job) and their responsibilities as elected officials.
In his wrapup of this week’s City Council meeting, City of Spokane Councilmember Jon Snyder writes on his blog about board and commission appointments that were made differently this year than in past years, including at SRTC and Spokane International Airport.
Yes I know each council person has many boards to keep track of, so who gets which board is important. Sorry to see John being removed from SRTC. I know he is very transportation oriented. We asked about who will be on the STA board in 2012 and they were hoping it would be John Snyder. Guess I will find out Friday. The CAC may be eliminated after that meeting also as the board members take over our duties, guess they were not busy enough.
It's amazing how MANY councils and committees each of those councilmembers are on. I can't imagine how they make the time to do it. We're also waiting to find out who will be on the STA Board, as one person from the STA Board also sits on our Board. Jon Snyder had some really great ideas and was a big supporter of transit so we're also sorry to see him go. We've got a lot of new opportunities with the new Board members coming in though so are ready to explore what we can do with them.
