San Francisco Airport is trying out some new technology to help visually-impaired people navigate its terminals.
Location-aware beacons have been installed throughout the terminal. Each beacon connects to a smartphone app to pop up with information when a user gets within range. For the visually impaired, the system uses Apple’s Voiceover technology to read out points of interest as the person approaches them and gives visual cues for how to navigate to locations such as power outlets, coffee shops and security checkpoints.

The Verge has more on what this technology can do.
